Why see a Clinical Psychologist?
Kia ora, I’m Suze Malcolm and I’m a Clinical Psychologist. Why would you want to see someone like me? Well, sometimes life feels overwhelming and really hard – whether it be getting up, getting to work or school or uni or just going out to meet a friend or getting to sleep at the end of the day. These every day activities can feel challenging, tough and sometimes feel just impossible. There is also a lot (and I mean a lot) going on in the world right now that is making life feel even harder for some people.
A Clinical Psychologist is trained in the assessment and treatment of mental illness – so what does that mean exactly?
Talking therapy with a clinical psychologist works when you hit the 'sweet spot' of feeling heard and understood. When this happens it results in you being able to work with your psychologist to understand what's led to your current difficulties in facing the every day in your world. Once you’ve got that shared understanding you can then learn the most useful tools, supported by current scientific research, to improve your quality of life and just, well, make life feel less hard.
